Rusty the Border Collie

This small, 3-5 year old male Border Collie is waiting for you at Arizona Border Collie Rescue. Here's Rusty's story:

Rusty/Beacon is one of the Texas 21. He came to us knowing almost nothing, and immediately showed his great spirit, intelligence, and joy in life. He learned how to use a dog door in 1 day, and is house trained (with a very occasional accident when he gets preoccupied).

He greets us each morning with a wagging tail and a big grin, wondering what he will get to do today. He is a curious, outgoing, affectionate guy, not shy or frightened, although he is sensibly cautious of new experiences.

The day after he came to us, I was loading my front loading washer, and he came over and stuck his head in the washer and looked around. Not too interesting, why would you do that, he seemed to say, when he withdrew his head.

He energetically pounces on toys and plays tug, although the point of retrieving the toy still escapes him.

He loves people and other dogs, and is very good with children over the age of three. He does have a strong herding instinct, so, as with many Border Collies, should be supervised around active children.

Rusty would do best with one other dog, as long as the other dog was playful, although he could be an only dog in the right circumstance. He needs an active home, and would be an ideal companion for an active single person who had a reasonable amount of time to spend with him.

Rusty still has much to learn, and will require more socialization and some patience as he discovers his new life, but he is so delighted with the world that, whereever he finds his forever home, he is sure to be a bright spot. Rusty is a nice red color, with a lovely head and eyes, and will be a beautiful dog when he has grown a new coat. New pictures will be coming soon.
